Going after the 2008 FIM World Veterans Motocross Title

What:                          2008 FIM Veterans World Cup Motocross

Where/When:

  • April 20          Bellpuig, Spain
  • June 1           Mallory Park, Great Britain
  • August  3       Lommel, Belgium

I had first heard of this new Veteran Championship series from moto artist Rob Kinsey.com from the UK.  Competing on  the same circuit during the MX1/2 Sunday program in front of the huge European crowds was more than enough to peak my interest.  So pumped was I that CAS Honda agreed to provide a 450 Honda to ride the Donnington Park round in England Last August.  I did not get to ride after all.  In hindsight I’m glad, as this is not just an exhibition, but a fully recognized FIM World Cup status that requires medicals, AMA clearance and entry excepted by the promoter and the FIM.

Glenn McGovern rode in last year’s Veterans championship has been very helpful walking me through the entry steps and is attending the first round in Spain as an advisor and supporter.  A motor home has been reserved for us to pick up in Barcelona and drive up to Bellpuig which is north east close to the French border.  By staying in the pits I will have an opportunity to stay on top of things.  One of the challenges is to learn the track and jumps very quickly getting up to speed.  A 30 minute timed practice session Saturday afternoon will determine the riders selected for the Sunday program, which is limited to 30 riders.  I am testing with Ohlins suspension with help from Dick’s Racing and will bring them with me to bolt on the CAS Honda.

(See what I’ve been doing to prepare….)
